“Dance like no one is watching? I’d much rather dance like the whole WORLD is watching, and enjoying the show!”

I stumbled into the Irish dance world as a junior in high school. Crazy, right?! While this is a much later start than most, I absolutely loved everything about Irish dancing. I hadn’t really danced before (aside from a hip-hop summer camp in 5th grade, haha!), but I moved up the grades quickly with the help of my incredible teachers, Liam Harney, A.D.C.R.G. and Michelle Malone-Chiles, T.C.R.G.

My competitive career was a short one. Since I had gotten such a late start, I really only competed for 6 years. In that time, was fortunate enough to stand on the podium in each of my 5 Oireachtas appearances, and placed as high as 3rd place at the North American Championships. In 2004, I had the opportunity to do something I would have never imagined just 6 years earlier— traveling to Belfast to compete in the Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne, and placing 16th in the Senior Mens 20&Over competition.

Although my competitive career had ended, many of my coolest Irish dance experiences were still to come. I’ve since had the opportunity to perform with some of my favorite Irish bands, including such greats as the Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Natalie MacMaster, Lunasa, Derek Warfield of the Wolfe Tones, and six time Grammy winners, The Chieftains. Most recently, I was invited to perform as an Irish dancing extra on the Netflix reboot of one of my favorite childhood TV shows, Fuller House! I didn’t get to meet Danny Tanner or Uncle Jesse, but dancing around with DJ and Stephanie was an experience I will never forget. (Season 2 Ep.3 if you’re curious!)

In 2013, I married my best friend and co-teacher at the Malone Academy, Kaitlin Lyons-Prine. In 2014 we welcomed our first bundle of joy to the world, our daughter Aoife, and in December 2016, our second bundle of joy, Ewan, was born. Worlds 2025 here they come!!
