“What an incredible talent!! Michael was tremendous to work with. His combined knowledge of dancing and photography makes every shot THE shot.”
Katie Dean, TCRG - Cleary Irish Dance, los angeles
When Riverdance hit the stage at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest my life changed forever. Irish dancing had taken the world by storm, and though I wouldn’t know it yet, this teenager from San Diego would soon be swapping surf sessions in Pacific Beach for long days of dancing and drilling at the Harney Academy.
It was also during these teenage years that I discovered a love for photography. I bought my first camera at 15, and began taking what I called “A Day in the Life” photos: a style commonly referred to nowadays as “photojournalism” or “lifestyle photography.” I’ve wandered through life with a camera by my side ever since.
I love being able to combine my two passions to create beautiful, artistic photographs that showcase not only the talent, but the personality behind these fantastic dancers. I look forward to dancing around town with you! —Michael Prine, TCRG

HERE’S WHAT DANCERS ARE SAYING ABOUT US… STEP ABOUT!
“As an Irish Dance teacher, adjudicator and a mom, it was enjoyable to watch Chelsea’s photoshoot from various perspectives. Michael’s creative mind, and the comfort level Chelsea and Michael had with each other, made the perfect match. Michael’s expertise in photography and Irish Dance, gives him a cutting edge. He spotted Chelsea’s strengths immediately and “focused” in on those to get the most amazing pictures. We LOVE all of them!
What we didn’t know at the time, was these pictures would be seen by casting directors and talent agencies. This has led to Chelsea’s start in acting and modeling. Chelsea had the most amazing time working with Michael this summer. Michael made her feel like the most special little girl that day, and that is what every mom wants to see! On our way home, Chelsea told me “it was the most amazing Sunday ever!” She is looking forward to her next photoshoot in the new year and I am looking forward to having my students work with Michael as well!”

“After seeing multiple photoshoots Michael has taken of other Irish dancers, I was lucky enough to book my session at the Portland Oireachtas. With the beauty of the city, the color changing leaves, and breathtaking water front, Michael knew how to capture all the Irish Dance moves, jumps, and natural poses of me. I never thought someone could take so many amazing photos! He is super talented, easy to work with, and always smiling! I highly recommend Step About for your next photoshoot!!”

“My career in modeling started at a young age with LA Models, then as Actress and Commercial dancer for the Movement Talent Agency. Having to keep up current photos are a must as a professional artist and they need to stand out. Michael is that photographer that can give you the edge you need to stand out with your headshots or as a commercial dancer. His experience as a performer makes it easy to work together to get that perfect shot. I especially loved the photos Michael took of me for Irish Dancing Magazine.”
